Vacations, weddings, funerals?

Traveling down the roadHave you done this? I know I have. Spent many hours planning a vacation trip. Done this many times. We all know that planning ahead makes a big difference.

And, of course, pretty much no one gets married without days, weeks, even months of planning ahead for the wedding. We all know that planning ahead makes a big difference.

And then, there are funerals. We all know that planning ahead makes a big difference (especially if you’re the one left to figure out the arrangements for someone else who has died). But most of us don’t plan ahead. Most don’t even give their families or loved ones any hint of what funeral or burial they’d prefer. Perhaps it’s part of our dying-averse society. Or, as they say, the belief that “death is optional.”

To help all of us plan ahead for funerals and burials, we’ve created the accompanying free “My Funeral and Burial Instructions” document. Print it out, complete it, put it in a safe place, and tell your family and friends about it. Don’t leave everyone else in the painful situation of guessing what you’d have wanted. Make extra blank copies and give them to your friends and family.

By the way, we’re not suggesting that you need to prepay for arrangements, just clearly communicate your wishes.

A toast: to vacations, weddings and funerals — all wonderfully planned and executed.
