Triathlon team sweats to raise funds for Caring House
We are thrilled to share that our Triathlon team came in Second Place out of eight co-ed relay teams!
They also had their own personal cheering squad in attendance, including Board Member Ellen Gorbunoff, Volunteer and Resident Assessor Jinny Blandford, and Co-founder/Board Member Dan Hudson (not pictured). Please join us in giving these three Caring House heroes three cheers and many thanks for their efforts! Read more their efforts below.
Janette, Jon and Natalie, three strong supporters of the work of Caring House, are teaming up in the 2021 Hermosa Beach Triathlon on Sunday, August 15.
They’ll have fun, get sweaty, and raise awareness and funds for Caring House. There are two quick and easy ways to donate – you can use the special Facebook fundraiser page or the Caring House website donation page. Either way, you can also add your comments and cheer Janette, Jon and Natalie on.
Janette Dawson is team leader and an experienced triathlon competitor. A retired nurse and case management professional for Torrance Memorial Medical Center, and a member of the Caring House Board, Janette shared thoughts for herself and her team:
“People do triathlons for many reasons — for personal goals, overcoming challenges in their lives, to remember a loved one who has passed, and to raise funds for their favorite charities. For me, the past year has brought its share of losses and challenges. I’m doing this triathlon with my Caring House team to help raise funds and support the work of Caring House. Caring House is a nonprofit home that helps families assure peace, comfort, support and dignity for their loved ones at the end of live. Every day, Caring House works to improve the end-of-life experience for men and women and families in our South Bay community.
Please donate to support me and my team and the work of Caring House. Thank you!”
Janette will lead off, competing in the 1/4-mile ocean swim. She’ll pass the baton to Jon Mesko, who brings his energy along with his beach volleyball and mountain bike experience to the team. Earlier this year, Jon made the move from private business to become the executive director of Caring House.
Jon will pass the baton to Natalie Gorbunoff Thome for the last leg, a three-mile run on the strand. In addition to being a long-time, dedicated runner, Natalie is a hospice and bereavement social worker at Providence Little Company of Mary.
