James “Jim” Misturu Nakao has come to live with us at Caring House. We are honored.
Jim was born in Inglewood, CA. The fourth of five children of Seki and Jintaro Nakao, he was reared in Hawthorne, CA. Jim worked as a farmer, specifically growing flowers, with his work life being at the flower market in downtown Los Angeles.
Jim is a veteran having served in the U.S. Army in 1954-56.
Jim met his wife Harumi at a wedding, sitting across from each other at the reception. That was the beginning of their relationship. They dated once a week for a year before marrying on Valentine’s Day in 1954. Their life together started in Torrance, moving in 1960 to their present home in Gardena. Jim and Harumi have three children, Jamie, Robin and Scott, and three grandchildren (Lindsey, Annie and Zoe) and two granddogs (Kallie Bee and Dexter).
Jim is a quiet man, with a million-dollar smile. Bowling, golf, gardening and wood crafting are Jim’s favorite activities. But his family is most important to him and he loves being known by one and all as “the best Grandpa.”
We are glad that Jim – Grandpa – is with us at Caring House. We look forward to caring for this loving family man.
Jim died on February 5, 2019. Honor him. Remember him.
