Meet Jeannie Thomas

Laura Jean “Jeannie” Spangler Thomas joined us at Caring House for her last days. We are honored.

Jeannie was the fourth child of Magnolia and Charles Spangler. Born in Okmulgee, OK, she was raised in Torrance, CA. She attended Narbonne High School in Wilmington, CA then graduated from Harbor College in San Pedro, CA with a major in Business. Jeannie worked in the admitting department at Harbor General Hospital later working in medical transcribing at Torrance Memorial and Long Beach Memorial.

Jeannie met her future husband, Joseph Thomas, on a blind date with her best friend and Joe’s brother, Nick. It was love at first sight. They were married at Nativity Church in Torrance. This loving and devoted union produced six children – Jean, Joe, Barbara, Elayne, John, and Susan. They have 19 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Jeannie and Joe lived most of their married life in Carson, later moving to El Segundo.

Aside from being a wonderful mother, Jeannie enjoys many and varied interests and activities – one of which is making tacos for the entire family! She loves playing dominoes and rummy; reading and especially likes mysteries. The British TV show, Vera is a favorite. She loves Las Vegas, playing blackjack and craps. Balancing all this, she taught Sunday School at St Anthony’s in El Segundo.

We are very glad Jeannie joined us at Caring House. We enjoyed caring for this devout and loving wife / mother and her family.
