Meet Barbara Schmidt

Barbara SchmidtBarbara Woodward Schmidt, also known as Barb, has come to live with us at Caring House. We are honored.

Born and raised in Davenport, Iowa, Barbara is the first child of Francis and Elizabeth Woodward.

Barbara was active at Davenport High School where she was yearbook editor. She attended Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa, and studied Home Economics.

Barbara met her future husband, Jimmy Lassen Schmidt, at an Elks Club picnic when she was 14 and he was 16. They dated through high school and college. After they married they moved to San Pedro, California, and Jimmy worked as an aeronautical engineer.

Barbara and Jimmy raised five children, Martin, Susan, Cathryn, Ruth Ann and Sarah. Barbara is the proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Through the years, Barbara has lived in San Pedro, Thousand Oaks and Camarillo. She has been an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, enjoys Bible study and has led the Girl Scouts in camping and cooking. She loves traveling, shopping, decorating for Christmas and making fruit cakes and candles.

Barbara and Jimmy played Bridge for over 50 years with 7 other couples. And she has always enjoyed entertaining and cooking delicious meals for family and friends often. A special joy was arranging flowers that Jimmy grew in their beautiful yard.

Barbara is known for making German pancakes almost every Sunday and for loving her grandchildren and treating them to many meals out at restaurants.

She is also known for befriending everyone and for helping all who needed help.

We are glad Barbara is with us at Caring House. We look forward to caring for this caring and helpful woman of faith.
