Kathy Gould joins Circle of Advisors
Katherine (Kathy) Gould, BA, MS, has joined the Caring House Circle of Advisors. Members of this special group of community leaders and professionals share their expertise, recommendations and prestige with Caring House. By doing this, they enhance Caring House and its mission of care for our residents and support for their families and loved ones.
Kathy is District Director for the Palos Verdes Library District.
In joining the Circle, Kathy told us “I want to support Caring House because I have had family members and dear friends whose lives ended in the institutional setting of a hospital because they could not stay at home and there were no other options. A comfortable, homelike environment would have been a true gift for them and their families.”
Kathy was born and spent her early childhood in Santa Barbara, California before moving to Manitoba, Canada where she attended high school and college. After graduating from Brandon University she received her Master of Science in Library and Information Management from the University of Southern California. She worked briefly as a public librarian and as a corporate librarian before her career shifted away from libraries and she spent 15 years in a variety of management and executive positions in the mining and manufacturing industries in New Zealand, Australia, and Kentucky.
She returned to her public service and library roots when she became Director of the Palos Verdes Library District in January, 2004. PVLD is an independent Special District Library governed by a publicly-elected Board of Trustees. Kathy is responsible for all aspects of operating three busy public libraries and a Teen Annex, including financial management, human resources and labor relations, fundraising, facilities and technology management, and oversight of 90 employees and over 200 volunteers.
Kathy is active in community and professional organizations. She is a Director of the Volunteer Center of the South Bay and of the California Library Association (CLA), Chair of the Infopeople Advisory Board, and serves on the California Special Districts Association Legislative Committee and the Palos Verdes Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Legislative Affairs Committee. She has previously served as Director and Chair of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, Director and Chair of Califa, Director and Chair of the Southern California Library Cooperative, and on a number of CLA committees and taskforces.
Kathy’s husband, Don, is a Community Library Manager for the County of Los Angeles Public Library. Outside of work Kathy enjoys swimming, spending time at the beach, travelling, watching sunsets, reading (of course), and just hanging out at home with her two dogs.
Other members of the Circle of Advisors are Kevin Ashworth, William F. Duncan, Kitty Edler, Ellen Gorbunoff, Mary Harris, Cathy Hendrickson, Francis J. (Jack) Hourigan, Lisa Humphreys, Sister Terrence Landini, Claire Tehan and Rabbi Didi Thomas. More information.
