Nursing students bring their dedication and compassion to Caring House

Nursing students from Los Angeles Harbor College have joined us at Caring House as student volunteers!

We are thrilled to have these compassionate and hardworking nursing students with us to provide our residents with peace, comfort, support and dignity at the end of their lives. Working side-by-side with our staff and volunteers to care for our residents and support their families, these nursing students have a unique opportunity to gain experience, while also completing their required hours to graduate in June.

Here are thoughts shared by some of the student volunteers:

“My first impression of Caring House was the homey feeling as soon as I walked in through the doors. I was greeted with smiles and joy, and felt very welcome. I soon realized the compassionate care which Caring House provides to all its residents. I’ve been ecstatic to have been given the opportunity to be a part of their team and contribute to the mission of Caring House. It is a home that feels like family.” – Saret Flores, Student Nurse

“Volunteering at Caring House has been a heartwarming experience and a privilege, caring for residents in the last stage of their lives. All the staff are amazing, and demonstrate compassion and professionalism towards all residents, volunteers, and visitors. Caring House is a one-of-a-kind home away from home!” – Moshanae Summerise, Student Nurse

“The caregivers work with so much care and compassion for the residents. It’s amazing what they do for the community and their families at a really vulnerable time.” – Jett Icasiano, Student Nurse

“Caring House is such a unique place! Here the residents and their families are enveloped with comfort and a sense of feeling at home. I have gained so much knowledge of end-of-life care from the staff and volunteers, which I will take with me throughout my nursing career. I feel truly honored to have had the opportunity to care for the residents and provide support for their families at such a challenging time.” – Lauren Kuljis, Student Nurse

“My experience at Caring House is unlike any before. The welcoming environment, along with the well-above-average standard of care, is what made my time here all the more enjoyable. The caregivers at this facility truly believe in making end-of-life care as comfortable as possible. The compassion, security, and overall attention within this facility has been beyond my expectations.” – Kailah Gallegos, Student Nurse

“Volunteering at Caring House was a great experience. The type of service Caring House offers is unique in its own right. End-of-life care can be scary but Caring House improves the patients’ quality of life by individualizing this transition. Residents of Caring House are allowed to remain independent and have their symptoms comfortably managed, and the Caregivers deliver care empathetically.” – Danica Wells, Student Nurse

The Caring House team thanks each of the student nurses for the dedication, care, compassion, inquisitiveness, professionalism and energy they’ve brought to us. We thank the leadership and faculty of the Los Angeles Harbor College Nursing Program for making this collaboration possible – and look forward to repeating this program with more nurses-to-be.
